Social Policy Change for Child Support Assessments

Child Support Assessments currently do not provide a modern or balanced approach to divorced parents, single parents, blended families or any other type of family unit. 

Child Support Agency policies do not correlate with Centrelink payment policies. Probably every person functioning within the Child Support system feels "ripped off". Current Child Support Assessment Formulas make the biological parents frustrated with each other and the system and it completely fails to provide financial compensation in the necessary areas.

If you're the Paying Parent, you can feel like you are being taken advantage of by the Receiving Parent.  If you're the Receiving Parent you can feel like the Paying Parent doesn't understand why you need this money. 

Let's force the government to rethink social policies to recognise that Australia's families are not only a 'nuclear family'.  Current social policies are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Families are diverse units that can include biological children from previous and current relationships and step-children from new relationships amongst many other varying situations.  One ridiculously complicated assessment formula is not able to encompass these situations adequately. 

It's time the Federal Government acknowledged that today's society does not mimic the stereotypical two-parent household from the 1950's.  I will take this petition straight to Federal Member of Parliament and demand social policies make it on the political agenda as quickly as possible. Many Australians are parents and many of those parents are separated, divorced or single. With the sheer weight of numbers, parents can bring the Federal Government into the modern age.  Let's demand social policy that's fair for all parents.
