Back in the 90's, talented drummer and composer Stewart Copeland (ex drummer of The Police) created one of the most unique and stylish gaming soundtracks ever heard in the Playstation era, made for the wildly popular 3D platform game Spyro the Dragon. However, aggravating to countless classic Spyro fans, the music was never released on CD.
The music was something special, and different. It was groovy and melodic, often uplifting, and it had an unusual mix of jazzy piano tunes and surreal organ hits, yet still managing to keep a remarkable atmosphere to the levels. Frequently played throughout the music were loud electric guitar pangs (they were rather spontaneous spasms, yet they always kept in rhythm). On that note, with Stewart Copeland's exceptional rhythmic skills, the music also contained a vast amount of layers hosting a variety of different percussion instruments, most memorably the high-pitched glockenspiel-like tinkle, which could be labelled as Spyro's signature sound.
Later, Stewart Copeland also created the soundtracks for Spyro 2: Riptos Rage (Gateway to Glimmer), Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon, and Spyro 4: Enter the Dragonfly. All of them held a different quality from each other, but still kept a lot of the unique style from Spyro 1 (yet they were arguably a lot more atmospheric and had more depth). These soundtracks were all generally given high praise as well.
It has been 10 years since the Spyro the Dragons first release, and it has been loved by a massive fan base worldwide. Many people have resorted to illegal actions (such as ripping) in order to obtain the music. Also, if you search for Spyro music on you tube, you will realize just how many people dearly love this soundtrack.
So, dont you think its time the long-time fans got a complete CD set of all the original Spyro music?
