St. John's Athletic Jerseys/Shirts

It has recently been made policy that the wearing of varsity jerseys and shirts for all sports to signify the day of a game has been restricted to only four times per year. Understandably, this has upset nearly every member of a team at St. John's, and many who do not even participate in sports. With all due respect to the dress code and its reinvigoration this year, we firmly believe that this vast restriction has taken measures too far. Not only has the tradition of wearing varsity jerseys and shirts to school on game days - began by the football team from the time of its inception over forty years ago - been an integral part of school spirit at St. John's, it has lent a sense of pride and accomplishment to those who wear them. Dramatically reducing the number of games for which jerseys and shirts can be worn to school will not only terminate a dearly-held St. John's tradition, but will put a damper on the school spirit. Rather than simply declare a set number of days for all sports, there must be a better way to minimize the conflict between these two long-standing traditions at St. John's. All we are asking is that you reconsider this policy, and come up with a more equitable way to reconcile jerseys and shirts with the uniform code.
