Thousands of cats are being abandoned, caged with no room to turn around, beaten to death with sticks, and killed or left to die by their owners in the streets of Beijing, as the government demands a "clean up" in time for the Summer Olympic Games in August of 2008. Owners are being paid 200 Yuan to abandon their pets in the street, where the government places the terrified cats 20-40 to a small cage, and leaves them to rot and die terribly diseased and in great pain in barricaded "shelters". The government has decided the demands that the city to be "as clean as possible" before the Olympic games begin in August of 2008. We the undersigned demand the Chinese government immediately cease this appalling, inhumane, barbaric practice, and that the Olympic Committee IMMEDIATELY acknowledge and address this issue, which is unbecoming to the Olympic ideals of "respect for universal moral principles".
