Subject: Stop Construction of Second Rail Road Track in North Edison,NJ
Dear Mayor Jun H. Choi:
One of your pre-mayoral election campaign promises was to make railroad crossings at Tingley Lane and Inman Avenue safer and to establish a Federal Railroad Administration "quiet zones", by eliminating the use of locomotive horns at these crossings.
I am outraged to learn that you have allowed the construction of second rail road track without worrying about the safety and the quality of life of North Edison residents and of thousands of people who cross these intersections every day в a complete reversal from your campaign promises. The current situation undermines the credibility of highly regarded Mayorвs offices of Edison.
I am highly concerned about the following:
1. Increased risk to lives of North Edison residents and their kids.
2. Traffic jam which is currently pathetic will become terribly worse, highly increasing chances of fatality.
3. Frequent train traffic will make the quality of life awful in the surrounding areas.
4. Decreased valuation of our homes, which indirectly affects the quality of our schools.
5. Increased danger from freight trains resulting from increased traffic and higher speed , effects of double track
6. Proposal to build second track was rejected overwhelmingly, at the big town meeting around 2-3 years ago, with lot of concerns from affected residents.
I urgently and sincerely request that the Township of Edison implement the steps necessary for enabling вquite zoneв at these two railroad crossings as per your campaign promises and immediately stop the second rail track construction.
I would really appreciate your immediate action in this regard.
Respectfully
In support of quality and safety of life in Edison, NJ
