Stop Drug Commercials Today!

Fellow Americans,

For too long we have allowed the drug companies to actively promote their chemicals to our families and children through the medium of television. For too long have we allowed them to push the minds of our youth into a culture of chemical dependency and the mindset of a pill will cure my problems.

Many of these drugs side-effects include disease, not to mention strokes, internal bleeding, or even death. In many cases their side-effects are the antithesis of what they claim to cure, such as anti-depressants causing suicidal thoughts and actions.

It is obvious that the FDA is not doing its job in regulating what drugs make it into the marketplace, and that lobbyists have overtaken the FDAs judgment with financial incentives that disregard our best interests as citizens.

Cigarette commercials were made illegal and many other regulations were placed on the tobacco companies due to the harmful effects of their product. Some of these effects include cancer, emphysema, and birth defects. In contrast, the side effects of the many prescription drugs that are advertised on the television far exceed the dangers that the tobacco companies pose. Simply listen to the muffled announcer at the end of any of these commercials for a number of examples.

America, it is time to say enough is enough. If it is good enough for the geese it is good enough for the gander, as they say. This double standard needs to stop immediately. Studies have indicated that our children are more likely to ask their doctor for pills today than they were even five years ago and a culture of chemical dependence is beginning to form all across the nation. For too long we have allowed these companies to advertise in our homes under the deceiving cloak of medical claims and minimally tested drugs.

Please take a stand today and sign this petition. Our goal is to reach 1 million signatures, which will show our government that we, as a people, have had enough and will not stand for this any longer. Thank you for your dedication to our children and our nations future.
