Stop Offshore Drilling

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has put the local economy, environment, and wildlife in a desperate situation. Included in the horribly large area that it threatens are the coastal marshes of southeastern Louisiana, where brown, thick oil has swept past protective booms and into the areas fragile wetlands. Countless birds, fish, and organisms are dying every day, helpless and surrounded by the toxic sludge as it destroys their homes, utterly contaminating the water and coasts. And this is not close to the end. An estimated two hundred and ten thousand gallons of crude oil a day are seeping into the pristine waters of the Gulf, and according to a top expert, its damaging effects could eventually be felt even in the Arctic and in Europe. This may be, as many ecologists agree, an environmental catastrophe of unknown proportions.
More offshore drilling could lead to more disastrous accidents like this one, and the last thing we need is dependence on foul, polluting oil from this dangerous and risky practice. Our earth cannot take much more of this thoughtless demolition. Please do as much as possible to limit offshore drilling and give our planet a rest.
