The School of the Americas is a U.S. military training center that since 1946 has trained over 70,000 Latin American and Caribbean soldiers.
Among their graduates are those responsible for the most notorious cases of human rights violations on the continent, including Hugo Banzer Suarez, former dictator of Bolivia, and Robinson Iriarte, sniper in Cochabamba Water War in 2000.
Recently the governments of Venezuela, Uruguay and Argentina declared that they will no longer send their soldiers to the School of the Americas.
With our signatures we declare:
- We support the campaign to close the School of the Americas.
- We ask the Bolivian government to immediately cease sending Bolivian Soldiers to this military school.
