A Potentialy RACIST Movie, Derogotory towards the MEXICAN
people based on events from MEXICAN history.
Directed by Ron Howard with script by Brian Helgeland with co producer Brian Grazer. The film as of the making of this petition is entitled 'The Eagle and the Serpent' currently with an unknown scheduled release date. The story as of now is told as unfolding through the eyes of Hernando Cortez and Malinalli(Malinche being her most well known name.) These two historical figures are not held in the slightest sense of national pride of Mexico amongst most Mexicans. Cortez who along with his conquistadores slaughtered children and women in a ordered fury motivated by a religious 'correction of the savage Aztec empire' and gold. Malinalli was a native taken slave and soon mistress of Hernando Cortez. Cortez used Malinalli as a guide to deconstruct the Aztec empire. The Aztecs were a very advanced civilisation that in many ways had outwit Europeans. The supposed 'saving' of the Aztecs from the animalistic lifestyle they were accused of living is a bogus and intelectualy dull excuse for European brutality.
A film set upon the first person views of ruthless conquistadores to ravage a civilisation by rape and mass murder in quest for riches is very hurtful and a great disrespect towards the people of Mexican decent. To allow thieves and killers as leading characters 'saving the day' will only portray the invaders as heroes and legendary compared to the innocent defending indiginous people of "old" mexico.
In these days of increasing animosity towards people of Mexican decent
a large theatrical performance about Mexicans and their supposedly ' bad behaviour' that is etched in the minds of many Americans will only arouse the racist image many already have for Mexican people. There is countless of disrespectful images in the media already about Mexicans and the Mexican culture why not make a film seen through the eyes of the innocent people of 'old' Mexico and not the greed of invaders?
How accurate will this film be? Will it be in the vein of double standards such as when a Native kills a European it's seen as a massacre and when Europeans kill Natives its heroic and done in good deeds as seen throughout countless biased history books.
1.)Can we expect to see the reality of the Spaniards when they set off dogs on children? Hernando himself even expresses events like these in his own journals. There is no excuse to not tell about such atrocities.
2.)Can we expect to see the starvation done to the Aztec people by the Conquistadores? The Spaniards had made drinking water undrinkable and food supplies run dry as a tactic to subdue the Aztecs.
3.)Can we expect to see the deaths of thousands due to being pourposly infected by European diseases?
Will Mexicans or any other decendants of Native Americans be allowed to play the part of their ancestors? Will this film be like so many others and put whites in 'brown face' to mock Mexican/Native history? There are millions of Mexicans currently residing legaly in the U.S. there is no reason to look over them.
This petition is in no way accusing the makers of this film or anyone asscociated with this film as racist themselves or having an intent to misuse Mexican history. This petition is to stop an error the film makers might create at the dawn of the film's release as an inaccurate movie. Please sign this petition inorder to end the racism that would arise from the content of this film towards Native peoples including those of Mexican decent.
