Stop Triclosan

The widespread consumer use of antibacterial agents such as Triclosan is not justified by current scientific evidence. When confined to clinical settings, antibacterial drugs have worked to our great advantage. However, the uncontrolled proliferation of Triclosan in the public market now has the potential to upset the delicate balance of power in our fight against disease-causing bacteria. The overuse of antibacterials has been shown to contribute to the emergence of drug-resistant pathogens. Triclosan has already been used to breed resistant bacteria in the laboratory. It is unnecessary to use antibacterials in the household the combination of normal soap and water is equally effective and does not encourage the development of resistant strains. In extreme situations, alcohol scrubs have been shown to be even more effective than Triclosan, and are recommended by the CDC in healthcare settings.

With good sense, we have decided to boycott all consumer products containing Triclosan. We encourage their manufacturers to act with responsibility and remove them from the market.
