Stop "Vick Dog Chew Toys"

Since the 19th century, dehumanizing caricutures of African Americans have been created to promote and justify ongoing oppression. The production and promotion of the 'Dog Chew Toy' bearing the likeness of Michael Vick reinforces the underlying bigotry and prejudice that millions Americans claim no longer exists, yet millions still suffer.

So far, two minor league baseball teams have held or have plans to host some type of "Michael Vick" promotional day.

The Long Beach (California) Armada minor league team hosted a "Michael Vick Animal Awareness Day." The original promotion was for any fan who brings in a Vick shirt or jersey to be thrown into a bonfire receives free admission and a donation in their name to a local animal rights organization. Citing "logistics concerns", Vick apparel was used instead as pooper scoopers for the free canine attendees.

The St. Paul (Minnesota) Saints plan to giveaway chew toys to fans for an upcoming game.

There is also a site selling "The Official Vick Chew Toy" with the tagline, "Let your dog begin chewing today!".

Enough is enough. While Michael Vick awaits trial, he has to endure an onslaught of public and media degradation based on not only the crime he is accused of, but criticism of his athletic ability and character. While we defend the rights of animals, must we promote hate and prejudice.

This petition is to raise awareness. We must educate ourselves in dealing with race and ethnicity in America. This is not only defaming to Michael Vick, but to every Black person on this planet.

This is not sports marketing.

It is in fact racism and extremely offensive.
