The sell and trade of exotic reptiles has become a huge problem for both the animals and "owners" alike. Many hatchling Iguanas, Bearded Dragons, and many more are sold to ill educated individuals which take the animals home to find out they are unable to care for the animal it's entire life due to size or husbandry requirements. Many hatchling reptiles die before leaving the pet store due to their delicate nature. Reptiles need to be kept at a proper temperature, humidity, and environment. They also require vitamin supplements and a particular diet. One way Iguanas are made appealing by pet stores is their cheap price. Where I am from you can buy an Iguana for $17.99. However if you were to purchase the Iguana along with everything it requires to lead a healthy life you would be looking at spending closer to $100 or more. I feel if we can all band together we can help increase the strictness of the reptile trade. My proposal is for reptiles sold to be required by law to be a specific age and length. Also educational materials should be a part of all reptile purchases.
