The war in Iraq has gone on for 4 years now, with no end in sight. The time is long overdue for members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to assert the powers granted to them by the Constitution (1, 2) regarding matters of war and peace.
We believe we speak for a solid majority of our fellow Americans in calling for active opposition to the troop surge of "more than 20,000" that President Bush announced on January 10th! In pursuit of this goal, Congressman Meehan submitted H.RES.41 on January 9th. We ask each of you to give serious consideration to cosponsoring your colleague's legislation, and then supporting it should it ever rise to the point of being voted on for final passage.

We believe that the American people sent Congress a clear message in last year's election to reject the Bush administration's "stay the course" approach to the war in Iraq. In response, Senator Feingold submitted S.121 on January 7th: "To provide for the redeployment of United States forces from Iraq." We urge each of you to give serious consideration to cosponsoring your colleague's legislation, and then supporting it should it ever rise to the point of being voted on for final passage.
