We the undersigned support the proposed Ontario Bill 79 An Act to promote the conservation of power in Northern York Region and the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. This Act, introduced as a private members bill by MPP Peter Tabuns, would make it illegal to construct a simple cycle generating station with a capacity greater than 30 megawatts in Northern York Region. It would also require the Ontario Power Authority to make every reasonable effort to implement conservation measures in the region in order to reduce electricity consumption and to meet its overall peak demand for electricity. The Act presents an alternative to the current plan to build a 350-400 megawatt power plant in the region that would be too big, too costly and too polluting.
