PETITION IN SUPPORT OF A TENURE TRACK POSITION AT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, FULLERTON, POLITICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT, FOR DR. MARCUS GREEN

The California State University community consisting of undergraduate, graduate, faculty, staff, and others has learned that the one year contract teaching position of Dr. Marcus Green will expire in the spring of 2008. It has also come to our attention that a Political Philosophy tenure track position has opened up in the universitys Political Science Department, to be filled for the fall 2008 semester. The student body community would like to express its utmost desire that this position be offered to Dr. Green.
Dr. Marcus Green, professor of political science at the California State University, Fullerton since 2004, has proved to be an outstanding, extraordinarily competent, knowledgeable, and very passionate educator. Most students who take a class with Dr. Green enroll in subsequent courses when the opportunity is available and if there are openings in his class, which are usually full due to his high popularity among students. Most of the students requesting that Professor Green remain with CSUF have taken two or more courses with him, which that itself is a remarkable record for a professor that transpires his teaching ability by the high subsequent enrollment of these students. Professor Green during the past few years at CSUF has made remarkable contributions and has stood out as a significant CSUF community member due to the following qualities:

Enthusiasm for teaching and ability to facilitate impressive thought provoking and balanced class discussions
Remarkable knowledge of political theory and complex concepts
Extraordinary ability to teach difficult concepts that are in turn easily understood by students
Involvement in student activities serving as advisor to an on-campus organization
Wonderful and caring support as a mentor to numerous undergraduate students
Creatively urging students to excel and to be passionate in the political science field
One of the best role models to students that this university possesses

We the undersigned, in recognition of Dr. Green's contributions to the CSUF community and to the wider scholarly community, strongly urge California State University, Fullerton and the Department of Political Science to take all steps necessary to ensure that Professor Green is offered a tenure track position at the Political Science Department at CSUF. The University will enhance its honorable academic body with the remarkable competence of Dr. Green if selected to this position.
