Whereas, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, in convention assembled, passed the Memphis Resolution in 2001 calling on all members cease and desist discussions on purely internal matters and personal attacks on members in the media, and,
Whereas, Walter C. Hilderman III has repeatedly conducted libelous interviews in the media for the past two years, and
Whereas, Walter C. Hilderman III has continued this activity as recently as July 2004, when his letter to the editor was published in the Civil War News, and,
Whereas, this letter to the editor, and all his other interviews contain libelous information that defames the good character of the members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, with lies, half-truths and insinuations, and,
Whereas, Walter C. Hilderman III is currently a member in good standing of the General William McCain Camp #584 as a member at large, and beyond the reach of any camp or division to initiate disciplinary proceedings, and,
Whereas, the good members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans wish this odious blight upon the organization to be removed from our ranks as soon as possible,
Therefore be it resolved, that we the undersigned members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans request that Commander-in-Chief Ron G. Wilson and the General Executive Council act as quickly as is practicable to conduct proper, constitutional proceedings to suspend or expel Walter C. Hilderman III from the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
