Take Back Our Elevators

We, the undersigned tenants of AECOM Lowe Housing believe that while residents should be able to reserve elevators when moving, the current elevator reservation policy is extremely inefficient and highly disruptive to our daily lives.

We find that the major problems are:
The elevators are reserved at inappropriate times.
The elevators are often reserved during periods of peak traffic. It can take more than 20 minutes to leave the building on such mornings.

The elevators are used inefficiently
When the elevators are reserved they are only used for a fraction of the time reserved. Movers are often not even completely packed when they reserve an elevator!

The elevators are monopolized for an excessive period of time.
3 hours is more time than is necessary for an efficient move. Furthermore, the 3 hour reservation times are not even enforced by security.

To address the above grievances, we propose the following rules be implemented:

1. No elevators may be reserved from 8:00-10:00AM and 5:00-7:00PM

2. No elevator reservations will be honored if one elevator in the building is not functional.

3. Elevator reservations shall be shortened from 3 hours to 2 hours.

4. Elevator reservation times will be strictly enforced. If the students have not completed their move within the allotted time, they will have to move their belongings in an unreserved elevator.

5. All students reserving elevators shall be instructed that they shall have all their belongings completely packed before taking control of an elevator and they shall not begin to unpack until they have returned the elevator to public use.
