We, the students at The University of West Georgia invoke our right to petition the newly created closing of the parking lot between the Humanities and TLC building. We feel this endangers the personal safety of ourselves as well as visitors to our campus. Music Majors and Art Majors frequently use the Humanities building after dark. Taking away our rights to park here hinders the learning experience. Music majors carry heavy equipment or instruments such as tubas, and percussion equipment, etc..., from their respective cars to Humanities often. Art majors carry art portfolios, canvases, and sculptures, etc..., as well. Often times there are a series of concerts or exhibitions within The Humanities building that are attended by visitors to our campus. The loading area of Humanities often serves as a means to get objects out of inclement weather swiftly as to not ruin such objects as expensive instruments and art works. Greek organizations frequently use this lot for they have meetings in any of the buildings within walking distance of the lot in question. Quite often, the persons that use this lot after dark are females that are alone, disabled, etc... Some students park here for it is the closest lot to the campus center which sees much activity after nightfall. The use of the lot by faculty personnel is greatly reduced after 5:30p.m. and therefore the use of the lot would not be maximized.
