The following petition and subsequent signatures are a combined effort (and in effect boycott) of the changes recently made to the SCOUT Productions/ABC Family Channel Venture Knock First, which airs Monday thru Friday at 3:30 PM.
Due to the overwhelming response by existing viewers of the show as relayed by numerous postings on the message board section of the Knock First website, it is evident that the age demographic that essentially made the show a success (13-17), is now being ignored. We the undersigned do not support such changes as it deems the aforementioned age group by SCOUT Productions expendable.
We also refuse to patronize a production entity that has exhibited changes that seem to alienate a demographic which is currently not represented in the present reality/home improvement/makeover television market. While there currently are many shows that cater to the adult viewer (which Knock First oddly enough has targeted in its age change and show format), there are currently no shows that cater to the age group that SCOUT Productions once targeted. Usually in business (which by the changes made to Knock First is what we can only assume SCOUT Productions is all about), you find a need and you fill it. Why Knock First has decided to become a show whose target audience already has many other rival programs to compete with in the same market is anybodys guess. But even as the age demographic of 13-17 is a young one, they are still wise enough to recognize when they are being mistreated and used.
This petition is to notify SCOUT Productions that unless changes are made to include the demographic of those who can most benefit from the talents and original purpose of the show, those who represent the former age group to which the show catered to at its inception, will boycott Knock First by not watching the show. Such small action combined with many forces can have a devastating effect on the future of Knock First. Ratings operate based on viewer loyalty. Advertisers pay to air their commercials on TV programs using rates that are based on ratings data. We are aware that programmers also use this data to decide which shows to keep and which to cancel. Without loyal viewers, there is no Knock First.
In closing, we would like to convey our enjoyment for the shows past format and understand that some changes regarding designers and carpenters are not an option. However, we do understand that the prior show format worked and when something works, you usually are wise to not change it.
