The Secure a Climate Deal in Copenhagen

We ask the government to act on the commitment made 1997 to reduce carbon emissions to 20\% below 1996 levels. It is unacceptable that 12 years later we stand ahead of only Luxemburg and Malta in the European league table with only 3\% of our energy coming from renewable resources.
As of December 4th the largest and most reputable scientific organization on the planet (The American Association for the Advancement of Science) reaffirmed the position of its Board of Directors and the leaders of 18 other respected organizations: Climate change is caused by human activities and it is a growing threat to society.
With global climate change already under way, and with its effect creating a direct threat to massive populations on our coast lines, the stability of our economy and the health of our people, we strenuously urge the prime minister act.
We also believe that the transition to a low carbon economy will have great benefits in terms of job creation, the health of our citizens and a narrowing of the income gap between the wealthy and the most disadvantaged.
In short the time to act is now.
We petition the government to:
1. Create more incentives for the development of green technologies
2. Increase energy efficiency across the United Kingdom
3. Commit to legally binding hard targets on emissions
4. Be at the forefront of the ratification of a global climate agreement which will once and for all create a rapid reduction of global carbon emissions with or without the commitment of all nations at Copenhagen.
