TimeZoneJump 2009 is an initiative designed to persuade Hungarians and international supporters that the country should switch from its current time zone (GMT +1) to a friendlier, brighter one (GMT+2). Hungary has been long stuck at the western periphery of its current, Central European time zone, which means i is already dark in Budapest, Hungary, when the sun is still shining in Madrid, Spain. Both cities belong to the same zone, but thereвs actually a 60-minute real-time difference between the two!
Our goal is to relocate Hungary to GMT+2, a time zone now shared by wealthy and cheerful nations such as Finland, Greece, Romania, Ukraine and Israel. Let Hungary become the sunny land it used to be before time zones were invented!
Who are we?
We are a group of dedicated Hungarians who are fed up with short winter days and the resulting darkness and depression. We want Hungary to become a better, brighter place, a country that is more livable and lovable than it is now. We want a new time zone, and we want it now.
