No dia 9 de Junho, a Camara Municipal de Lagoa - Algarve - Portugal instalou uma torre de comunicacoes com 30 metros de altura na zona do Carvoeiro. Sem prestar qualquer informacao nem consulta previa aos residentes, a estrutura foi implantada em zona demarcada no Plano Director Municipal de Lagoa como Reserva Ecologica Nacional.

Agravante ainda o facto da construcao estar situada a 2 metros de uma linha de agua adjacente ao Hotel Tivoli na estrada litoral do Carvoeiro.

Com aproximadamente 30 metros de altura destaca-se prejudicialmente na area residencial onde esta inserida, composta por moradias de dois pisos

Os habitantes nos terrenos contiguos veem o valor das suas propriedades diminuir drasticamente, nao tendo direito a qualquer compensacao pelos danos causados.

A autarquia nao prestou qualquer informacao aos habitantes, o aviso de construcao (obrigatorio por lei) nao foi colocado e toda a operacao foi planeada para ser concluida rapidamente durante o fim de semana alargado de 10 de Junho de 2010. Foi assim impossivel averiguar se houve emissao de autorizacao de construcao e quem foi o requerente dessa pretensao.

Esta e a segunda vez num periodo de 14 meses que a Camara Municipal tenta impor aos residentes do Carvoeiro esta construcao.

O impacto visual desta intervencao prejudica irremediavelmente o ambiente construido e natural circundante.

Como cidadaos, temos a responsabilidade de proteger os nossos direitos adquiridos e preservar o nosso patrimonio natural.
E importante travar este tipo de destruicao ambiental e abuso de poder.

On June 9th, the Camara Municipal de Lagoa, Algarve, Portugal installed, without notice or consultation with the residents, a commercial communications (microwave) tower in Carvoeiro, in an area demarcated as Reserva Ecologica Nacional in the Lagoa PDM.

The tower was erected about 2m from a Linha de agua adjacent to the Hotel Tivoli on the coastal road of Carvoeiro.
It is approximately 30m high and towers over a row of nearby two-storey apartments and surrounding villas and, because it is so close to the sea, the views of many residents have been seriously damaged, as well as the value of their properties reduced.
It has impacted negatively on the residential environment of the locality.

This was erected in one day without any notification at all, and without conforming to the most basic requirements of construction sites. There was no aviso posted on the site. Therefore it is impossible to determine if a building license was issued and the respective name of the owner of the construction.

Work was ongoing on Portugal Day June 10th, which showed how hastily this tower was erected, before those affected could even register a protest.

This is the second time in 14 months that the Camara has tried to impose such a tower on the residents of Carvoeiro, without regard to the negative effect on them, and without consultation.

As citizens and residents of Portugal, we have a responsibility to protect our rights and preserve our environment. It is important that we stop this kind of environmental destruction and abuse of power.
