Unfair Dismissal of Jaye Silverman.

Jaye was recently "dismissed" from school after withdrawing from Principals of Writing II. After she accumulated too many absences due to documented health issues, which required medical attention at the hospital, administration asked her to either withdrawal from the class or face failing the class. Out of concern for her GPA, Jaye withdrew from the class. This was the only information that she was told. After the completion of the school year, Jaye was sent a letter stating that she was dismissed from the university because she did not complete Principals of Writing II in two consecutive semesters (she tested out of Principals of Writing I). This policy was never made clear throughout the school year and she was never told that withdrawing from the class would lead to dismissal.
The university handled this situation inadequately. THE ACADEMIC AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT AND THE ADVISING SYSTEM SHOULD PROPERLY EXPLAIN ALL ACADEMIC POLICIES AND CAVEATS!
Academic Affairs claims to "monitor student academic standing and compliance with academic policies. They did not fulfill this responsibility and it resulted in a severe consequence for a student. A small and renown private university like Richmond should not have such inefficiencies. We pay the high cost of tuition and receive these outcomes?
Richmond's communication with Jaye was also poorly timed. She did not receive any information about a possible withdrawal while she was still at school. She received a letter in the mail June 18th (once she was already back in the US for six weeks) stating she was dismissed from the university. She immediately sent in an appeal to the Provost. And after several attempts to find out the final decision, a letter was faxed to her on June 30th. This lackadaisical effort from the school has seriously put her future academic career in jeopardy, as most university deadlines have ended. For a school that promotes international relations, Richmond fails in diplomacy and communications!
Students like Jaye should not be casually disposed! She has no other academic, behavioral, disciplinary, financial or social problems at Richmond. Her dismissal is simply due to bureaucratic technicalities.
