University of Louisiana Indoor Practice Facility

Petition to the Student Government Association
of The University of Louisiana at Lafayette
for Track and Field and Tennis Venues
in the Planned Indoor Practice Facility

Whereas the University of Louisiana is in the planning phase to build an Indoor Practice Facility for The University of Louisiana Athletic Department;

Whereas, this facility will be built almost entirely with student funds, for the use of students and student athletes;

Whereas, current plans definitely include provisions for the inclusion of all sports, with the possible exceptions of Track & Field, and Tennis;

Whereas, student athletes in Track & Field and Tennis are no less students than are any others on campus;

Whereas, the inclusion of appropriate facilities in the Indoor Practice Facility for Track & Field and Tennis would greatly strengthen team morale and enhance recruiting activities for The University of Louisiana, which will greatly help both teams become more competitive, and to bring more pride and prestige to our Alma Mater;

Whereas Competition Grade venues for Indoor Track & Field and Tennis could occupy essentially the same area and utilize the same seating;

Whereas the only possible sources of self-generated revenue for the Indoor Practice Facility would be, in fact, facilities for Track & Field and Tennis;

Whereas Track & Field and Tennis venues in the Indoor Practice Facility would be the only features that would regularly bring our fans, alumni, students, potential students and their families into the Facility;

Whereas Track & Field and Tennis competitions in the Indoor Practice Facility would provide the only regular media coverage for the facility, and would therefore provide much more public exposure and positive attention for the University than would any other possible use of the Facility;

Whereas the cost of adding Track and Tennis venues would be more than offset by eventual revenues generated by the additions;

Now therefore we, the undersigned students, alumni, friends, and supporters of the University of Louisiana, do hereby respectfully petition the Student Government Association of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to support the inclusion of Competition Grade facilities for Indoor Track & Field and Tennis be included in the Indoor Practice Facility.

Further, we petition the Student Government Association to request and recommend to the Administration of The University of Louisiana, on behalf of the Petitioners and all students, to include both Track & Field and Tennis facilities in the proposed Indoor Practice Facility.
