Valve's CS 1.6 In-Game Advertising Decision

Valve is a game company that has developed such great titles as Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Counter-Strike, and Team Fortress, as well as the newer titles Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode 1. Valve has been mostly recognized for the Half-Life Series as well as their extremely successful games Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source, which runs on Half-Life 2's Source engine.


Valve has made a decision that has already been implemented into other games like Battlefield 2142 that doesn't exactly bring joy to everyone's hearts. That decision: In-Game Advertising. They have stated that in Counter-Strike 1.6, they will soon be implementing In-Game Advertisements for different retailers all around maps that players of Counter-Strike are already familiar with. The reason this petition has been created is because people play games to escape reality, even if the game is very realistic. The last thing most gamers want to see is an ad for Subway to come up while running through one of their favorite maps, followed by another ad for McDonalds, or Coca-Cola.


We, as gamers, feel that this feature should at least be tested in Counter-Strike 1.6, but not fully implemented, as we feel it isn't something we would want to see each day. Through various gaming forums we can already see that most people are unhappy with the decision Valve is making and want to put a stop to it. We hope you make the decision to agree with us on this Online Petition and put a stop to In-Game advertising in Valve's game, Counter-Strike 1.6, for the better.
