As a producer of the annual and wildly successful VH-1 Hip Hop Honors, you have, no doubt, encountered a huge pool of talent worthy of such a tribute, but we are asking that for the 2009 show, you give honor to a film that has impacted all the pioneers of hip-hop. That movie is Beat Street. It may not have been the first of its kind, but its definitely the most memorable and represented the four elements of hip-hop to the fullest. The breakdance battle at The Roxy is still dope, even to this very day. For the graffiti, the fashion, the DJing, the clubs, the soundtrack and the unforgettable performances by legends such as Doug E. Fresh, Kool Moe Dee, Afrika Bambaataa, and others, Beat Street remains a classic. 2009 is the perfect year to pay tribute to this great slice of hip-hop culture, as it will be the movies 25th anniversary. We humbly request that you honor this film and do so with a reunion of the cast, in particular, Robert Lee Taylor, so we can all find out what happened to him! If you dont love Beat Street, you aint a true head. Old school, baby! Thank you!!
