We understand that video taped testimony for child witnesses is presently a matter for "Judge's Discretion" and many children are denied this method even though it is a perfectly legal testimony.
Please standardize the legal process and protect all Canadian children by making video taped testimony law for all those who are legally minors.
This would help remove the already traumatized and most vulnerable population from being negotiable points of interest between the Crown and the accused. It might also result in a less stressful and potentially more forthright testimony.
The U.N. clearly states "the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth" *
Video taped testimony for all children would help ensure that Canada be more in line with the goals of the U.N. in the matter of care and protection of children.

This should be a right for children, not a priviledge. All children should have the right to choose "not to be seen by the accused" to help reduce the impact of the trial on the child.
