The current parking set-up for residents of the Vista del Campo apartment community is unrealistic and unfair. Nearly 150 students have been denied access to a permit (using a procedure that was not outlined in the leasing agreement and which numerous residents were not informed of), and have been given unrealistic solutions to the problem. In addition, available parking only provides space for 70\% of permit-holding residents.
We are requesting action based on the following grievances:
The method used for distributing the parking permits was not outlined in the rental leasing agreement, and was not explained to non-permit receiving residents
Those residents without a permit are expected to pay upwards of $150/ quarter to obtain parking on campus, while other residents were provided permits for free.
The options presented to non-permit holders, are unrealistic and unfair. Students are expected to either move their cars daily, from one lot to the next in order to avoid citation, or are expected to not have a car while at school. While the lack of a car might be a solution to the problem, students were not given adequate information ahead of time to plan for such an arrangement.
We, the undersigned, strongly suggest rapid action on this matter, through a collaboration between the Vista del Campo administration and the office of UCI Parking and Transportation. We recommend as a temporary solution, opening Arroyo Drive to street parking for all residents of Vista del Campo.
