Build Garbage Incinerators
Whereas Metro Vancouver (formerly the GVRD) is pursuing the garbage incinerator (so-called Waste to Energy) option to deal with solid waste instead of other viable options,
And the airshed is one of the most vulnerable and unique in the world, with air pollution already a well-documented and devastating factor to the health of many residents,
And a growing body of experts and technical experts disagree with the assumptions and methodology of the MV studies that ignore harmful emissions that would deposit mercury, cadmium, dioxins, furans, other heavy metals and nanoparticles in our drinking water and streams,
And whereas Metro Vancouver is on record as opposing other pollution emitters, such as the SE2 (Sumas Energy II) power plant,
Therefore, we, the undersigned, petition Metro Vancouver to cease pursuing this option and to properly examine and pursue other options that do not impact the already compromised Fraser Valley airshed.
