Lets not forget that communism gave us socialized medicine. Cuba has a 99.8\% literacy rate and health-care is one of its largest if not largest export. Between 1948-1955 the U.S.S.R. had a 20\%+ growth rate. The truth behind the mass starvation within the old Soviet Union is the fact that when Stalin started collectivizing farms the well off land owners would burn their crops, because if they couldn't have it all to themselves, then no one could have it. I'm not saying that Stalin wasn't a vicious and cruel dictator by any means but he did work with Winston Churchill and FDR to win WWII and defeat Nazi Fascism. Now the western world will not trade with a country exercising this ideology since it doesn't play by free trade rules and is therefore seen as a political threat which is quite sad when you think about it.
True communism had only existed long ago when man lived in small groups or tribes where-by everyone contributed to something whether it be hunting, cooking, building or what have you. Everyone brought something to the table and for that they had protection, food, clothing, shelter and so on. Therefore it isn't the ideology of communism that we should be against but maybe the idea of dictatorships of one individual because this is what the previous petition is describing.
With our recent recession we obviously need a major overhaul on how the world economy works, world hunger has reached 1 billion people, and currently we rely on China to make most of out products simply because it is cheaper than paying a Canadian citizen to do it.
In closing we the undersign do not support and condemn the act of building a monument for the victims of communism as mush as we don't support building a monument for the victims of Christianity, Islam, or even capitalism. Instead lets spend this on something that benefits Canada as a whole. Thank-you.
