We Want Our Zicam Cold Remedy Gel Back!

On June 16, 2009, the FDA advised consumers to discontinue use of Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel and Zicam Cold Remedy Gel Swabs, because the FDA said they had associated a serious risk of anosmia (loss of smell) with Zincum Gluconicum, the active ingredient in these products. Under this pressure from the FDA, Matrixx, the manufacturer of Zicam, voluntarily discontinued manufacturing these products, and they are no longer available from retail outlets.

We the undersigned have used Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel and Zicam Cold Remedy Gel Swabs and have found these products to lessen our cold symptoms, or alleviate the cold altogether. We have purchased and used these homeopathic products over the past several years and have not suffered side effects such as loss of smell. We understand there are claims by approximately 130 people nationwide since 1999 who say they have suffered anosmia and we are by no means trivializing this. However, we as Americans want a choice...such as putting a warning label on the Zicam products saying "possible side effects - may cause loss of smell," and letting us make our own decisions. There are THOUSANDS of Over-The-Counter drugs available in the U.S.A. which have side effects for some people - should every one be banned? We don't think so! These Zicam products work for us! We have a right to make an informed decision on our own on whether to buy or use these Zicam products, and not have the Government (FDA) dictate that decision to us or to Matrixx, the manufacturer of Zicam products. Please sign this petition so we can try to convince the FDA to allow Matrixx to manufacture, market, and distribute the original Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel and Zicam Cold Remedy Gel Swabs. We miss our Zicam, and we want it back!
