To all those against the recent changes in Georgetowns Alcohol Policies Please show your support for this cause by signing the attached petition. The only way to restore the wonderful aspects of Georgetowns social scene is for all of us to band together.
o For the Freshman class, none of you signed up for this. Help change this before it has a devastating impact on your Georgetown experience for the next four years.
o To the Sophmores, remember the fun and joy of your first Homecoming, the Final Four celebrations, and countless other priceless memories. Keep those memories alive by standing against unnecessary and arbitrary fun-killing.
o Juniors we have two years left, and we should be ashamed if we allow this short time to be marred by the powers that be. Would any of us have chosen to pay all this money to live in townhouses had we known these would be the circumstances? I highly doubt it.
o Seniors, please do all you can to keep Georgetown the fun loving, but always hard-working and responsible college youve enjoyed so much.

This needs to be stopped before its too late. Suspension after 3 parties? Georgetown townhouses with Apartment Managers and Resident Assistants? Overly aggressive Securitas officers who swear at and disrespect Georgetown students? We all deserve better. We all deserve an explanation. WE ALL DESERVE TO BE HEARD. The Administration has told us we had our chance to speak. Clearly, we had no idea how far they would go and hundreds of students already want to be heard again and enter into a discourse with Student Affairs. Lets remind them that no serious incidents by Hoyas warranted these harsh changes. Lets voice our concerns that as young, inebriated students search for parties off campus, crimes against Hoyas will likely skyrocket. Keep in mind: we pay $50,000+ a year not just for the incomparable learning experience and world-class academics, but also for an overall experience in which to grow and to have fun. Help restore things to the way they were. We dont ask for lawlessness of complete disregard of provisions put in place for our own safety and security. We understand the laws of this country, and also understand they are rarely enforced this harshly at most college campuses. We just want things to go back to the way they were last year. Before extreme punishments for violations, extremely aggressive RAs and security forces, and before the unreasonable, requirements of a house majority to have a registered party. We wouldnt mind seeing the Keg Limit retracted, either. There is a tremendous power in numbers of which we should take advantage. OPEN LETTER TO TODD OLSON AND STUDENT AFFAIRS

To Whom It May Concern:

The students of Georgetown are not happy with the new policies. We recognize that the drinking age is 21. That is a federal law and we cannot do anything about it here. However, we want to discuss how the new policy and practices are still not fair to us, the students.
Though the policys goal might be to eliminate underage drinking, most students we have spoken with feel that underage students will still drink regardless of the location. If anything, they will engage in high risk drinking in small groups instead of enjoying the large party atmosphere. Even in the few parties that can be registered on campus, there will still be underage students drinking in a Georgetown sanctioned event. First, by shutting down much of the party scene on campus, more students will travel to bars on M and Wisconsin St. or to off campus parties in the Burleith area. This will greatly increase chances of attacks on students as we travel home late at night from these places. The few blocks outside the front gates used to be a wonderful place for all Georgetown students to enjoy a college atmosphere, walking from house to house because so many people could have parties. Some parties did get too loud and DPS would disperse those parties to restore peace. With the creation of This dynamic no longer exists.
Second, the students feel that these changes were unwarranted. Our recent years at Georgetown did not see large problems in the party atmosphere. The two events RAs have cited to me were the ceiling collapse in Village B, the Final Four celebration, and the large student riot involving students from Howard University. The Final Four celebration was harmless, especially when compared to celebrations when other teams did the same where cars where flipped. The Village B collapse was due just as much to structural weakness as a large student gathering. The most serious of these, the Howard incident, did not even involve Georgetown students misbehaving.
Furthermore, students feel like we had little opportunity to influence these changes, nor did they know about them until they are being enforced. In an email on August 27, Todd Olson, the Vice President of Student Affairs wrote that, Student voices were instrumental in shaping the conversation that led to these changes and your actions will be important as we move forward this year. Based on student reactions in the last week, it seems too many of us were ignored in the forming of these policies. Now, we choose to act to get them reversed, or at the very least modified to restore the social atmosphere we all used to love. Our actions will all be non violent We at Work Hard, Play Hard in no way advocate or encourage violence, destruction of Georgetown property, or breaking the law. We will simply do everything we can to peacefully bring back the social scene we enjoyed in the past.
This is our school. This is our Home on the Hilltop. We all deserve to change it and create an environment we enjoy. We reserve the right to protest and will exercise it until we see change. Were simply fighting for our right to party, safely and responsibly as always.
