Further, we take exception to the rhetoric of Rep. Warren Chisum, author of House Joint Resolution 6, and of those like him, who maintain that the definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman is critical to defend and protect the institution of marriage which is under assault by homosexual interest groups around the nation. We do not agree with his characterization and request that he not presume to speak for us in regard to what sort of defense our marriages might require.
Finally, we (sarcastically) congratulate Rep. Chisum and his fellow law-makers who have obviously taken care of all pressing problems such as poverty, disease, educational parity and government corruption are now free to concentrate on their own discomfort with the sexual and romantic choices of people they dont even know. In earnest, however, we plead with Rep. Chisum and like-minded legislators to put their own fears and bigotry aside and devote their time and energy (which we pay for) to issues of real importance.
