Against violent acts against Palestinian people and International volunteers

On Wednesday, September 29, 2004, two volunteers from Christian Peacemakers Team, collaborating with Operation Dove, nonviolent peace corp of Association Pope John XXIII, were violently attacked while they were going with some Palestinian children to the school in Tuwani village, South Hebron Hills, walking on a street near to the Maon Israeli Settlement.
Five men dressed in black with covered faces, attacked and struck them with chains and sticks and robbed the woman.
The two volunteers were admitted to the hospital at Beersheba for care.
Next day, September 30, an Israeli police patrol, in order to avoid other attacks, stopped along the road through which the children, with International volunteers, have to pass every day to reach their school.
After some hours, a patrol of Israeli Defence Forces threatened the volunteers telling them that, if they continue to escort the children it could run more blood than yesterday.

We, the undersigned, members of the civil society, strongly believing in the importance of the respect of the human rights and the values of justice and democracy
CONDAMN THIS ACT OF VIOLENCE.

WE ASK
the Israeli Authority to do everything is possible in order to avoid other acts of violence, to find the responsibles of the attack and to assure them to the justice.
International volunteers work for justice and equality in full respect of Israeli laws.

WE ASK
therefore that the Israeli State makes these same laws respected by all the citizens, without exception, that assures the normal course of the Palestinian daily life and protects the international citizens presence in the territory.
We hope therefore that the way to solve the conflict will be dialogue and negotiation.

Petizione contro atti di violenza ai danni della popolazione palestinese e dei volontari internazionali

Mercoledм 29 settembre 2004, due volontari del Christian Peacemaker Team che collaborano con Operazione Colomba, corpo civile di pace dellAssociazione Comunitа Papa Giovanni XXIII, sono stati violentemente aggrediti mentre accompagnavano dei bambini palestinesi a scuola nel villaggio di Tuwani, sulle colline a sud di Hebron, percorrendo una strada vicina allinsediamento israeliano di Maon.
Cinque persone, vestite di nero e con il volto coperto li hanno aggrediti e picchiati con catene e bastoni e poi derubati.
I due volontari sono tuttora ricoverati in ospedale a causa delle lesioni.
Il giorno successivo 30 settembre un mezzo della polizia israeliana, per evitare altre aggressioni, ha sostato lungo la strada che i bambini devono percorrere quotidianamente per raggiungere la scuola, assieme ai volontari internazionali che li scortano.
Alcune ore dopo perт, una pattuglia di soldati ha minacciato i volontari affermando che se continueranno ad effettuare laccompagnamento dei bambini potrebbe scorrere piщ sangue del giorno precedente.

Noi firmatari, membri della societа civile, credendo fermamente nellimportanza e nel rispetto dei diritti umani e dei valori della giustizia e della democrazia,
CONDANNIAMO QUESTO ATTO DI VIOLENZA.

CHIEDIAMO
alle autoritа israeliane di fare tutto il possibile perchй questi atti non abbiano assolutamente a ripetersi e che sia fatta chiarezza e giustizia sui responsabili dellaccaduto.
I volontari internazionali, uomini e donne che lavorano per la giustizia e lequitа lo fanno nel pieno rispetto delle leggi israeliane.

CHIEDIAMO
quindi che lo Stato di Israele faccia rispettare senza eccezioni a tutti i cittadini queste stesse leggi, che garantisca il normale svolgimento delle attivitа quotidiane della popolazione palestinese e tuteli la presenza dei cittadini internazionali sul territorio.
Auspichiamo infine che le vie per risolvere il conflitto mediorientale siano quelle del dialogo e del negoziato.
