Due to terrible illegal dumping, Wicklow Co. Council closed the access to Mageraghmore beach. This means that beachgoers must now park on the verge on what it a small road with bends in order to walk down the lane between farms to access the beach.
This is not practical for people with young families and must enrage the people living locally as there road is reduced to one lane each summer. It's extremely dangerous to be parking, walking in that one lane, doing U turns to leave, etc.
Agreed, the dumping was unacceptable, but is closing the spacious carpark really the only recourse? We would petition Wicklow Co. Council to find an alternative, more proactive solution to the problem that allows Wicklow people to use this beautiful amenity safely and easily. Perhaps the gate could be locked from 8am to 8pm, or cameras could be installed?
