There has been a large increase in the numbers off people being shipped from the Isle Of Man for holidays in the UK and beyond. This cruel practice causes terrible suffering and is indefensible in a place fully equipped to deal with foot passengers locally and humanely.
As an example, most of the Manx people that are exported for holidays are destined to the UK. The norm is to ship the people on the 7.45pm ferry, which typically loads at around 6pm. The coachs carrying the people normally reach there hotel at 12.30am, but are not off-loaded until around 6am the following morning. This means the people will have endured well over 12 hours packed into a coachs – and as many as 10 frightening changes in environment, kids screaming, teens playing music and on there phones all the time, with old dad snoring his head off and the old bog getting stuck – only to wish when they finally get out that they never go by coach again.
Reportedly, Manx people have been transported as far as Italy USA and even papua new guinea, a horrendous three-day journey. There has been at least one known incidence of a human dying on the ferry as a result of old age.
Live export also damages our tourisme industry. By reducing the numbers of people made to stay in the Island's hotels. It increases economic pressure on the hotels and bed sits and on other tourists to bear additional costs.
I am opposed to the inhumane practice of live human export, and call for a ban on the export of humans from the Isle of Man.
