Birth Choice

To: Nebraska Health and Human Services and Nebraska Legislator,

As of today,(September 1, 2003) the Nebraska Law prohibits anyone to attend an "out of hospital" birth. If done so, they will be charged with practicing as a certified nurse midwife without a license. (71-1753) Therefore, the only choice presently is to have an unassisted out of hospital birth. This petition is to legalize trained non-nurse midwives who will be licensed by the state of Nebraska, to attend out of hospital births. It is crucial for a consumer to choose the setting and safety of childbirth as many other states and countries have done in the past. If you would like to see this better option of legalizing "Certified Professional Midwives" to attend out of hospital births in Nebraska, than the risk of unassisted births, please apply your signature.
