Brainstorming A Solution To Provide The Best Equipment For Our Troops

We can complain.
We can sit and wait.
We can worry and pray.
And maybe we can do something.

The media increasingly report about insufficient safety equipment for our troops, along with an increasing number of troop complaints and a negative impact on the morale of our troops.

We read that (quote CNN): White House spokesman Scott McClellan on Friday said that Bush is committed to making sure our troops have the best equipment and all the resources they need to do their jobs.

We read that the providers for armored humvees are increasing their production.

I would like to conclude that while efforts are underway, improving the troops equipment sooner rather than later is highly desirable.

That said, I want to raise the following question:

What can we the civilian people of America do to help our troops to get safer equipment to our troops faster?

Many Americans show their support for our troops in words and action. You can read about the comments and initiatives on www.americasupportsyou.mil, for example. People are:
- Donating money
- Donating time
- Donating goods

What if we could redirect some of that readiness to help to providing the best equipment and all the resources they need?

I propose that a combined effort between the volunteers of America and the government institutions in charge can make a difference in getting our troops what they need, faster:
- If the bottleneck is money, lets give people the opportunity to donate money that goes directly to the funds for improving the troop equipment.
- If the bottleneck is time, lets see how we can put volunteers to work
- If the bottleneck is goods, lets encourage companies to donate materials, reallocate materials, or provide means to people to buy materials that are needed to make the troops equipment safer.

With coordinated efforts, creativity, and our American spirit to make things happen, I think the people of America are ready to unleash the potential to help from the bottom up.
