From 1997 to 2005 these chocolate covered toys of wonder and discovery covered the shelves of Australia and New Zealand, promoting environmental issues, and the knowledge of both present day, and extinct Australian and New Zealand wildlife, to the children of these countires. For those of you who don't know, Yowie's were a chocolate product made by Cadbury. They were a hollow chocolate outline of one of the Yowie characters, which inside contained an Australian or New Zealand native animal, and information regearding that animal. The inside was either a current animal, or an extinct one, depending on the series. The Yowie's inspired the youth, and opened their eyes to the flora and fauna of their country. I myself was particually interested in the information yowie's had to deliver, and so today aspire to follow environmental type careers, doing my best to work my way into paeleontology. I am now in university, and studying what I love, and it's all thanks to Yowies.
It is my wish that future youth's can be inspired the way I once was, and in doing so gain an understanding of the environment around them at a young age.
Yowie's were the perfect association of a treat mixed with a burst of knowledge, teaching children throughout Australia. I hope that one day yowie's will be brought back to continue their work.
