Bring Dances Back To Halifax 2006/2007

A few days ago, I heard that the Halifax Regional School Board decided to stop dances from existing because some teens got caught drinking alcohol on school ground. I'm totally fed up with this, because the dances I go to in Queen Elizabeth High are the most fun I can have in my high school years other than drama class. I really liked the rock themed dance back in May 2006, even though I thought they needed to play more rock, punk, metal, and alternative hits.

The point is that this is my last year at Queen Elizabeth and will be the last year that this high school exists before it gets torn down and united with Saint Patrick's to make Citadel High. I wanted to enjoy everything I've ever wanted to enjoy during my last high school year and look at what happens. The school board just cancels every school dance, probably because they think we're too irresponsible to go to them. Well, I want to make this petition to give the Halifax Regional School Board and the mayor a piece of my mind. Let's define "dance", shall we...

dance - (v.) Animal Behaviour. a stylized pattern of movements performed by an animal, as a bird in courtship display, or an insect, as a honeybee in indicating a source of nectar.

I don't think it's right to ban a form of animal behaviour from school. Fighting is an animal behaviour, but it often kills people, so I can see why school boards won't tolerate anything like that. Dances are just plain fun and are important get togethers if you can't get together anywhere else. Sure, some forms of dancing are provacative, but they might be the moves students need when becoming adults who hang around in bars and clubs trying to pick up a member of the opposite sex if they're still single. Both dancing and music have been big battles between the two most recent generations, because both the way people move and the way the songs are written have been incredibly controversial and the second to last generation should know that controversy will continue to exist on our planet. Just look at the show South Park. It's been on television for around ten years now and they still use potty humour and rip on ethnic groups to get people laughing.

I hope this petition can make a good political statement to schools all over the Halifax Regional School Board and save my last year in high school from becoming a bore. Just because some teenagers drank alcohol on school grounds doesn't mean that every teenager at the campus will get drunk. The innocent youth shouldn't suffer the same way as the guilty youth and that's a fact.
