Recently, we have been informed that the Ridge High School Track will not be finished, until possibly April. The reason we were given is because the contractor's felt it was too cold to do the work. The track surface was removed in late August/early September and what remains is a sub surface of uneven asphalt. The condition of the track is in no way conducive for any serious running and potentially harmful for anyone who would use it for running. The timing of the proposed finish date is significantly inappropriate. Why you ask? Because Ridge HS has a very large participation from it's student body for its track team. In fact the boy's and girl's track team is the largest athletic team that Ridge HS fields. There are over 100 students that participate in Track & Field. And now these students will not be able to practice or compete on their track during the main part of their season. How unreasonable is this? I don't think another sport's playing surface would be removed and not replaced prior to it's season. This is unfair to the students who participate in track & field.
