Following the conviction of back-street breeders James Perks, Lorraine Perks and Stephen Jenkins from Tamworth this week, we are calling for the UK Government to review the maximum sentence and punishments available in animal abuse cases.
These people we sentenced to 25 weeks in prison and banned for life from keeping animals after two sick puppies found buried alive in a shallow grave in their garden. The puppies were put to sleep by an RSPCA vet at they were too poorly to save.
The puppies were discovered along with 15 puppies and nine adult dogs following a tip off from a member of the public. The dogs were keep in rabbit hutches for 23 hours a day, without room to move and amongst their own urine and faeces.
The magistrate commented that he imposed the maximum sentence, and if he had the power to give a longer sentence he would.
We believe that the UK is a nation of animal lovers and we want to give the courts and the RSPCA the opportunity and power to have animal abusers given a punishment that fits the crime committed. We would like to see much harsher sentences available for cases of extreme cruelty such as this one.
If you haven't already read enough above, please see the link below, this also shows a video taken by the RSPCA as evidence used to prosecute these breeders.
