As per a news report in Rajasthan Patrika (April 1, 2005), the Central Government has decided to launch a scheme for starting fifty four thousand slaughter houses in the country. The decision is being taken when the party, running the government is taking out a Dandi Yatra on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the actual Dandi Yatra taken out by Gandhiji to oppose the brutality of Britishers in a non-violent way. Gandhiji used all non-violent means to oppose various brutalities. In the process, several yatries were even hurt, but nonviolence was the mantra for the unique exhibition of tolerance. Gandhiji gave a new meaning to the concept of ahimsa (non-violence) and further demonstrated this concept in several ways. Gandhiji used this principle to ultimately remove the Britishers from the country and he became a world renowned figure for this unique contribution to the concept of ahimsa.
However, the decision to start such a large number of slaughter houses in the country to kill innocent animals is totally against the principle of non-violence. Are the followers of the current yatra are just walking on the roads or they have some emotions and respect for the person in whose name they are replaying this yatra ?. It is too well know that several species of animals and birds are getting extinct day by day. The recent example of disappearance of lions from Ranthambore is just an example. The Government may justify the said decision in the name of economic development and earning even foreign exchange, but have they considered the other side of the coin ?
I request all animal lovers to propagate this message and see that such merciless decisions in the name of development are stopped.
We dont want such concession which shall be against the animals!!! When we preach ahimsa we should follow it.
