Changing The Name of the Northumbria University Law Ball to the Carbolic Smoke Ball
Sign Now
The case of Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball Co. is one that remains in the memories of all law students, from their first encounter with the case in Year One Contract lectures, whether at Northumbria University with Steve Wilson, or elsewhere. The case raised issues of offers to the world at large, the principle by which an advertisement can be an offer, the intention to create legal relations, as well as more than a few giggles at the mention of the words "Mrs Carlill's Balls".
It is for these reasons that we believe the Carbolic Smoke Ball is the perfect name for the Law Ball, and we request the change in time for the 2008 ball.
