We urge President Obama to condemn what human rights activists are calling a massacre of civilians on a flotilla of ships in international waters carrying humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. Israeli forces killed approximately 20 civilians in a pre-dawn raid of the flotilla.
Several Americans, including former Ambassador Edward L. Peck, former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, Nobel Peace Prize winner Maired Corrigan Maguire of Northern Ireland and at least five Californians, were among those participating in the humanitarian aid effort.
In a statement, United Nations officials said: We wish to make clear that such tragedies are entirely avoidable if Israel heeds the repeated calls of the international community to end its counterproductive and unacceptable blockage of Gaza.
As people of conscience, we urge you to join other human rights advocates to condemn the Gaza Flotilla Massacre.
