Declaration of Support for the State of Israel

We, the Jewish citizens of South Africa, support a peaceful resolution of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
Regrettably, we have seen how, in response to the most extraordinarily generous peace overtures made by then-Prime Minister Ehud Barak at Camp David in 2000, PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat unleashed a most vicious wave of terrorism and violence against Israeli civilians.
We believe that there can be no peace until terrorism against innocent civilians is defeated. We therefore pledge our full support to the government of the State of Israel in dealing with terrorism as it sees fit.
Furthermore, we condemn the actions of a South African cabinet minister, Ronnie Kasrils, who has up until recently had nothing to do with the Jewish community, and has now suddenly rediscovered his Jewish identity, at the time when he has seen fit publicly to attack his own people. We will have no part in his so-called declaration of conscience, nor will we countenance any suggestion that South African Jewry, as a whole, is not supportive of the State of Israel.
We, the Jewish citizens of South Africa, are with Israel, through all of its troubles; we grieve for her fallen, her orphans and her widows; for all the innocents who have been slain in this war of terrorism against our brothers and sisters.
We are one nation, and united we stand.
