Demand for Action From BC Housing

The Confederation Park Concerned Citizens Coalition wants to ensure any tenants BC Housing moves into the units at 204 Alpha Street and 205 Beta Street in north Burnaby match up to local amenities. We demand:

1) BC Housing move the townhouse units located at 204 Alpha and 205 Beta from their Provincial Homelessness Initiative to a generic housing pool so that those units can be used for the families, seniors and people with physical disabilities who are at risk of homelessness that would benefit the most from existing adjacent amenities. This would be in keeping with BC Housings stated intention to maintain a pool of low rent market housing in our community.

2) BC Housing establish a formal working group with representation from the tenants and the community, Block Watch and Confederation Park Elementary School Parent Advisory Committee to help guide the non-profit society managing these units in its decisions regarding future tenants.

3) BC Housing provides the Confederation Park Concerned Citizens Coalition with a copy of the operating plan to be provided to the non-profit society selected by BC Housing to manage the units.

4) BC Housing provides the Confederation Park Concerned Citizens Coalition with the specific, detailed criteria for who could be housed in these units and who would not qualify.
