Denounce Student Arrests by Bengal Government after Nandigram

It has now become a common feature to arrest or detain them, followed by implication on false charges. Case are hoisted by branding them as Naxalites or Maoists.
The list is long. Here are examples from the last month:
May, 2007 - Jagannath, a member of the Progressive Democratic Students Front (PDSF) West Bengal State Committee was arrested on charges of being a suspected Maoist from Singur, despite the fact that PDSF, which is a constituent of Chhatra Chhatri Sanghati Mancha (CCSM), has a very distinct politics. He was kept in jail for days.
26 June - Four members of the United Students Democratic Front (USDF), another constituent of CCSM, were picked up, along with a member of the Association for the Protection of Democratic Rights from Katwa station. The students had gone there to conduct a survey about and a campaign against the proposed land acquisition and SEZ there. After being roughed up by local CPI(M) goons, they were taken into custody, and the police gave press statements saying they were suspected Maoists.
27 June - Some ten policemen in plain clothes accosted Abhishek Mukherjee, State Secretary of the Revolutionary Students Front. Without serving him anything like an arrest warrant, they tried to take him into custody, and harassed him, when he resisted this illegal act.
This blatant act of state harassment, right in front of the famous Jadavpur University, is a portent of the dark future of the state of democratic and civil rights, unless the people raise their voice in protest against such Fascist practices.
We urge you to take steps such that:
1. All such false arrests and other forms of detention as well as other illegal forms of state harassment mounting to repression are stopped
2. All false charges against activists, both student and otherwise, are withdrawn
3. The practice of linking cases is stopped.
