DIAL 1 FOR CONNECTICUT

The Connecticut phone system requires you to dial the numeral 1, or not to dial a 1 when dialing exchanges within the state. The area code is always required to be dialed even in the same area code. Unfortunately there is no way to know whether to dial 1, or not to dial 1, even within the same area code, unless you have memorized each exchange. If you do not dial 1, and the prefix 1 is required, you get a recorded message to redial using the numeral 1. If you do dial 1 and this is not necessary, then you will get a recording to not dial 1 and only to dial the area code and phone number.

This is ridiculously cumbersome. It is not only a waste of incoming and outgoing phone lines in order to get a recorded message, it is a real daily loss of productivity to businesses, and a potentially life-threatening situation in critical emergencies.

We propose that within the state of Connecticut all calls dialed will be preceded by the prefix numeral 1, then the area code, and then the phone number. If the numeral 1 is required for every call, then at least multiple attempts to reach intended party will be avoided.

WE URGE ALL POLITICAL CANDIDATES WITHIN THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT TO CONSIDER THIS A REAL PRIORITY, AND REQUIRE THEM TO FIX THIS RELATIVELY EASILY RECTIFIED PROBLEM BEFORE THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS.
