Equitable Policy for University of Waikato Faculty of Law

The University of Waikato Faculty of Law currently allows students studying law from Tauranga and all students studying law part time to have access to online recordings of lectures via Panopto.

We submit that this is an unreasonable decision, as it gives an unfair advantage to those who can view this material. These students can view the material as many times as they want, at a time that suits them, pause the recording or stop the recording and come back at another time. This allows students to make more comprehensive notes and get more out of the lectures.

In the interest of fairness, we respectfully submit that either the Faculty of Law gives all students access to this material, or restrict access to those who have access to only allow them to view it once.

The first option would be preferable as this gives all students the best opportunity to do well. The second option would still leave an unfair advantage, as the students with access can still view the lectures at a time that suits them and pause the recording, however this is an improvement on the current system.
